On Saturday, August 7th, Wally Workman Gallery celebrates its 30th anniversary in business. Starting in only two small rooms within a 100 year old historic home on West Sixth Street, the gallery has gradually expanded to occupy the whole house. Wally garners an impressive roster of 50 artists who work in diverse mediums and subject matter. Always evolving, this includes artists that have been with the gallery for decades as well as those that were just signed this year. The anniversary show will include works by all their artists; old and new, figurative and abstract, small and large, and everything in between. The common denominator? Consistently intriguing work. The show will continue from August 7th through September 4th.

Wally Workman Gallery celebrates it’s 30th anniversary this year.

Ian Shults | July 10-31

On Saturday, July 10th, Wally Workman Gallery opens its first show with Austin painter Ian Shults. Self taught, Ian’s bold and decisive brushstrokes forge fine art and the profane to tell sordid tales of debauchery with a sly sense of humor. His paintings recall a bygone era when subversive behavior and kinky benders were swept under the rug. Ironically alluring, this show pulls back the curtain.

Opening Reception Saturday, April 3rd from 6 to 8pmThe Wally Workman Gallery presents Laguna, new watercolors by Jan Heaton. The work in this collection is inspired by the simplistic beauty and healing properties of nature: delicate solitary shells, tangled kelp on the shore, water patterns, lush floral masses, details of trees and foliage she observed every day. Jan constructs her paintings with a myriad of transparent layers that ultimately convey a celebration of life and natural beauty.

Opening Reception on Saturday, March 6th from 6 to 8pm
Wally Workman Gallery
1202 West 6th Street

On Saturday, March 6th, Wally Workman Gallery presents new works by acclaimed Austin artist Jennifer Balkan. Her third solo show at the gallery, Jennifer’s paintings manifest raw emotion through luscious paint quality and direct confrontation of her subjects with the viewer. Using fortunes from fortune cookies and maps from across the globe sewn directly onto the canvas, she merges this raw reality with an abstract subconscious. Each piece becomes it’s own psychological narrative.
